SAN DIEGO, Calif., January 13, 2011 – American Internet Services (AIS), a leading provider of enterprise-class data center and connectivity services in the western United States, today announced independent global auditing firm NDB has been engaged to evaluate all seven of the AIS premium data center footprints in Los Angeles, San Diego and Phoenix for SSAE 16 type 2 (Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements #16, type 2) audit. This audit is generally considered as the replacement of the retiring SAS 70, which AIS received in September 2010.
The goal of the audit is to provide assurance (via report) that controls asserted actually exist and are functioning properly. The AIS controls matrix covers all aspects of the business, including: Service Delivery, Solutions Design, Computer Operations, Logical and Physical Security, Change Management, Incident Management and Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity Planning.
“Since the SAS 70 type of audit, that’s been around since the early 1990s, is being retired this year, we felt it was critical to proactively seek the SSAE 16 since it is the one that enterprise clients are now seeking in their data center services vendor,” said Tim Caulfield, chief executive officer at AIS. “This stringent audit will enable potential clients to have an even higher level of assurance that we have the appropriate controls in place.”
A key requirement of the SSAE 16 is an attestation engagement, where AIS management provides to the auditor a written assertion regarding the controls designs, objectives and implementation. The auditor, in turn, verifies the proper controls are in place and that they are functioning properly for the length of the sampling period.
The process should be complete with results available this year in the summer timeframe.
