A SAS 70 Type II report is generated by an independent accounting and auditing firm after a review and examination of an organization's control objectives and activities over a set period of time. At the conclusion of the engagement, a full controls report including the auditor's opinion as to the effectiveness of those controls is issued to the examined organization.
“SAS 70 is presently the de facto compliance standard, so this lets potential clients know that we’ve got the bases covered in the areas of controls designs, objectives and implementation,” said Tim Caulfield, chief executive officer at AIS.
The SAS 70 Type II audit is a much more thorough audit which requires on-site inspection and in-person employee interviews to confirm that the controls presented are actually functioning as represented. Audits are renewed on an annual basis as controls and conditions change to provide assurance that the verified controls have been maintained and remain effective.
