Why buy your own storage hardware? With AIS Managed NetApp Storage (MNS), clients are provided with their own virtual NetApp (vFiler) with which you (or AIS) can manage your own storage configuration — creating shares or snapshots — even linking your storage to your own Active Directory service for authentication and logging.

Shift your capital expense to operating expense — and take advantage of enterprise-class security and features. Customers have the option of 100M, 1GigE, or 10GigE connections with AIS’ proprietary TL3 high-availability handoff that can connect their storage to a colo, cloud, or corporate site.

Each AIS Managed NetApp Storage (MNS) node consists of dual NetApp FAS3250 controllers in high availability mode. This provides the highest level of redundancy as well as the best performance — because the 3250’s have dual processors. Each controller has dual 10GigE uplinks to a redundant switching infrastructure to maximize I/O and availability.

Two particularly useful features are SnapMirror, which allows you to schedule snapshot replication to one of AIS’ other MNS nodes (e.g., Phoenix), and SnapClone, which allows you to “clone” a copy of your SnapMirrored data for use in Business Continuity testing or test/dev scenarios. Just try doing that on your own (without breaking the bank)!

The NetApp FAS3250 system comes with the NetApp Data ONTAP operating system and advanced data management and data protection tools. This includes a standard set of software products that deliver storage efficiency, simple data management, and high performance.

AIS also offers NetApp’s extended-value software products which provide advanced capabilities including instant data recovery, instant cloning, data replication, disk-to-disk backup, and application-aware backup and recovery.

The 3250’s have multiple disk shelves configured with RAID-DP redundancy: it’s essentially RAID5 with two parity disks and two hot spares per storage aggregate. This (again) provides an extremely high level of availability even in the event of a disk failure. This extra level of redundancy also ensures data integrity in virtually any scenario.

From our experience, we have found that the intensive diagnostics built into the NetApp controllers are able to detect and isolate bad drives long before they actually fail. These same diagnostics prevent “bit rot” which is the deterioration of digital data over time due to cumulative bit-level failures on individual disks.
